New Year's Day, Welcome the God of Wealth
1. People welcome back the God of Wealth on the 5th day of Chinese New Year, which is said to be his birthday, by setting off firecrackers and offering incense.
dà nián chū wǔ shì cái shén de shēnɡ rì，rén men shāo xiānɡ fànɡ pào yínɡ jiē cái shén dào lái。
大 年 初 五 是 财 神 的 生 日，人 们 烧 香 放 炮 迎 接 财 神 到 来 。
2. This day is also commonly known as the Festival of Po Wu, literally breaking five. According to custom, it is believed that many New Year taboos can be broken on this day.
zhè tiān yě bèi chēnɡ wéi“pò wǔ rì”。ɡēn jù xí sú，xǔ duō xīn nián jìn jì ɡuò cǐ rì jiē kě pò。
这 天 也 被 称 为 “破 五 日”。根 据 习 俗，许 多 新 年 禁 忌 过 此 日 皆 可 破。
3. One of the legends tells the story of a prince – the son of the ancient emperor Zhuan Xu. He was only willing to wear rags and eat coarse grains. Even when offered new clothes, he would not wear them until he burnt a hole in them. People called him the “son of poverty.” After he died, people buried him, claiming the day as one to send away the son of poverty.
chuán shuō zhōnɡ ɡǔ dài dì wánɡ zhuān xū zhī zǐ，xìnɡ xǐ chuān pò yī làn shān，chī cū liánɡ，jí shǐ yǒu rén ɡěi tā xīn yī fú，tā yě bú chuān，chú fēi zài yī fú shànɡ shāo ɡè dònɡ cái kěn chuān。rén men chēnɡ tā wéi“qiónɡ zǐ”。tā sǐ hòu，rén men mái zànɡ le tā，bìnɡ bǎ zhè yī tiān dānɡ zuò sònɡ“qiónɡ zǐ”de rì zǐ。
传 说 中 古 代 帝 王 颛 顼 之 子，性 喜 穿 破 衣 烂 衫 ，吃 粗 粮 ，即 使 有 人 给 他 新 衣 服，他 也 不 穿 ，除 非 在 衣 服 上 烧 个 洞 才 肯 穿 。人 们 称 他 为 “穷 子”。他 死 后 ，人 们 埋 葬 了 他，并 把 这 一 天 当 作 送 “穷 子”的 日 子。
4. Few people know the story now, but the wish to be far from poverty and to welcome the New Year with hope and wealth is passed along through the generations. After sending away the poverty and welcoming the God of Wealth, now it is also the time for shops to reopen for business. The New Year has come with brand new prospects.

现 在 很 少 有 人 知 道 这 些 传 说 了，但 人 们 在 新 的 一 年 远 离 贫 穷 、财 运 亨 通 的 愿 望 是 代 代 相 传 的。在 送 走 了 穷 神 ，迎 来 了 财 神 之 后 ，商 铺 店 面 就 纷 纷 开 张 了。新 年 ，新 气 象 。
