  1. Said to be a horse but not a horse, 
    说马不像马, 
    shuō mǎ bù xiàng mǎ,
  2. it's not found on roads. 
    路上没有它。 
    lù shàng méi yǒu tā。
  3. If used as medicine, 
    若用它做药,
    ruò yòng tā zuò yào,
  4. it must be caught in the sea.
    要到海中抓。 
    yào dào hǎi zhōng zhuā。

  • 说马不像马, 路上没有它。 
    shuō mǎ bù xiàng mǎ,lù shàng méi yǒu tā。
    The first two lines, "说马不像马,路上没有它," describe an animal that is said to be a horse but isn't really a horse, and it is not found on roads. This suggests a creature that lives in a different environment.
  • 若用它做药,要到海中抓。 
    ruò yòng tā zuò yào,yào dào hǎi zhōng zhuā。
    The next two lines, "若用它做药,要到海中抓," tell us that if it is used as medicine, it must be caught in the sea.
