Luxury Brand Manager Learns Chinese for High-End Watch and Jewelry Communication

I'm Amelia from Malaysia. With a passion for luxury, I specialize in the appreciation, sales, and service of high watch and jewellery.

While working at the headquarters of Jaeger-LeCoultre in Switzerland, I came to realize that my limited Chinese language proficiency was a barrier to delivering in-depth descriptions of each watch or jewellery piece to my Chinese clients.  As a result, they were unable to fully comprehend the unique features of each piece, which left me feeling upset.

As someone without opportunities for immersion in a Chinese-speaking environment, I initially lacked a structured plan for learning Chinese. After a considerable period, I turned to ChineseLearning in search of personalized one-on-one instruction to advance my skills. Through this learning journey, I have acquired specialized Chinese vocabulary for luxury brands, as well as precise Chinese descriptions of materials, craftsmanship, and more details for the artistry behind each piece. With improved pronunciation, expanded vocabulary, and enhanced expressive abilities, I noticed a significant advancement in my ability to effectively communicate with Chinese clients at work. Teacher Niki patiently answered all my questions and used videos or pictures to help me understand the wonders of each Chinese character, thereby expanding my vocabulary. Gradually, I was able to move away from using Pinyin to read Chinese, which was very exciting for me.

With my improved Chinese language skills, I am able to provide clients with more detailed and professional product descriptions, offer personalized services, and effectively communicate with Chinese-speaking clients. Thanks to the solid foundation laid by teacher Niki and the ongoing support from ChineseLearning. No matter how busy work is, I will always make time for my Chinese learning. I am determined to further refine my knowledge by learning more professional expressions and mastering more accurate pronunciations for each piece, in order to cultivate stronger relationships with my Chinese clients.
